Even though Aleysha Ortiz graduated from public school with "honors" and got a scholarship to the University of Connecticut, she is illiterate. Literally. Her story is just the tip of the iceberg.
That’s insane, that school should closed down. So many public schools aren’t teaching kids on purpose. New World Order agenda to dumb us down, dumb people stay ignorant, wont fight back.
Very interesting. It would be great if lots of students did this!! And if they also sued individual teachers who passed them when they did not meet any standards. And of course the teachers could sue their unions - or whatever - for putting pressure on them to pass students not meeting standards.
This is an incredible eye-opener. I didn't appreciate that the situation was this bad. It's hard to believe that ANY teacher could overlook this shortcoming in a student. It blows me away that she graduated with "honors" and got into UCon. If she told her teachers of her illiteracy, it's the fault of the system and its teachers. I hope she gets some help soon.
I had phonics in grade school decades ago when it was still a normal part of the curriculum. Nevertheless, people obviously learn, over time, to recognize words on sight. Learning to do this directly without phonics is likely more difficult, but it is certainly not impossible; children in China learning Chinese have to do it (Chinese does not have an alphabet), yet their literacy rate is impressive.
The fact that this is possible suggests that the problem is bigger than simply failing to teach phonics in primary school. It means that certain people in our educational system are just not doing their jobs–they are not confirming the student is performing at grade level before promoting them, and they are not taking the actions needed to get the student back on track. Back when I was in school, students got held back if their progress wasn’t satisfactory.
Wow unfortunately this happens a lot hopefully moving the education dept to the individual states helps .

This is absolutely unbelievable.
I wonder how many students just stayed home most of the year and still got C’s so they could just graduate ???
